2026 Lunar New Year Journey Log: A Cross-City Narrative
Preface: The Scent of Travel
This Lunar New Year, we didn't just stay home; we completed a journey across Kaohsiung, Taitung, and Tainan. From the thrill of the racing park and the serenity of wetland bird watching to the warmth of the New Year's Eve dinner, every stop was the perfect opening for 2026.
Part I: The Pulse of Kaohsiung (Feb 14 - Feb 15)
Park Under the Stars: On the eve of New Year's Eve, after experiencing the desolate beauty of the Moon World, we headed straight to Suzuka Circuit Park. With a starlight ticket, we drifted through various attractions under the neon lights, initiating our holiday rituals.
A Day in the Port City: On the first morning of the New Year, we drove to Guomao Natural Park to see art installations. Then we switched gears and took the light rail to the Ultraman Special Exhibition. Before dusk, we arranged a boat trip around the harbor, finally experiencing the architectural beauty under the "Dome of Light" at Formosa Boulevard Station, ending the day with delicacies at Liuhe Night Market.
Part II: Nature and Heritage in Taitung (Feb 16 - Feb 18)
Wings on the Southern Link: On the way to Chenggong, Taitung on New Year's Eve, we stopped at Taimali Station. Besides the ocean view, we had a peaceful bird-watching session, capturing the natural moments of the East Coast.
The Warmth of Reunion: This year's New Year's Eve dinner was particularly heartwarming. After arriving in Chenggong, we had dinner at my wife's uncle's house, enjoying the precious time with elders and family.
A Dialogue between Forest and Culture: On the first and second days of the New Year, we wandered between the Black Forest of Taitung Forest Park and the lights of the Railway Art Village. We also visited the Luan Shan Forest Museum to witness the "walking trees" and feel the deep forest culture of the Bunun people.
Part III: Unexpected Surprises and the Return Journey (Feb 19 - Feb 20)
Symphony of Wetlands and Seafood: On the third day back, we visited Qieding Wetland Park for bird watching, then enjoyed the freshest seafood at Xingda Harbor Fish Market, feeling the vitality of Southern Taiwan's ports.
The Finale of Art and Catching: On the last day, we made a special trip to the Chimei Museum. Originally intended to be a day of immersion in art, we unexpectedly encountered a Pokémon GO event, catching Pokémon and battling among classical buildings, adding a fun twist to the end of the trip.
